The big Paris Dance-halls managers did not take their time exploiting its popularity, and around 1865, "Can Can" became a new form of show.
Later, the great painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, customer of the "Moulin Rouge" Paris Music-hall, immortalized "Can Can" by his drawings and portraits of the stars of this theatre. "La Goulue" (the greedy one), the male-dancer "Valentin", nicknamed "Le Desosse" (the boned one), and the "Ouadrille Naturaliste", formed by Jane Avril, Nini "Patte en l'Air" (with all fours upset). "La Môme Fromage" (the cheese-kid) and "Grille d'Egout" (sewer-grating) ...
"Can Can" is an excitement, speed and colors dance, it is a fantastic impulse of joy, cheerfulness, and spreading extravagance which, everywhere in the world, arouses the audience enthusiasm.
As in the passed century, "Can Can" tradition is entering into the third "millennium" with the same ardor, exuberance and youthfulness.
